Blackie

Today we said goodbye to Blackie. We think the last cold spell was just too much for her. She went to the vet hospital on the 8th because she was not well and medications plus fluids did not improve her condition so the decision was made that it was time. Blood tests received afterwards confirmed that her kidney disease was beyond the point that anything could help her. A guess would be that Blackie was between 18 and 20 years old.

She moved into the horse barn when the main barn was torn down. The other cats went into the cat shed but she was a loner. She lived her days sleeping on whatever she was comfortable on and in later years, she had her favorite piece of styrofoam by the door. She loved that spot because it was close to the door where she waited patiently for her food to arrive. Food was very important to her especially Temptations!

Blackie had dental work and teeth removed in 2021 and started Solensia for her arthritis in September 2023. What a difference that made for her! She was outside last summer and fall much more than she had been for years enjoying the sun and the grass.

The barn was her home. It was cold but had a heated water bowl, a pile of straw to sleep in plus her insulated box in the last couple of years. She had a lovely low howl which she shared on her trips to the vet. She loved scratches and would tolerate her annual spring brushing to rid her of her hair knots in a queenly fashion.

Hope you are enjoying a warm barn with lots of food and Temptations, Blackie.
